Climate Journalism in Central Asia

Central Asian media is paying little attention to issues of climate change and ecology. This limits the media’s opportunities of defining environmental policy topics and discussing current environmental issues. Against this background, five countries – Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Germany – implemented the joint project “Developing Journalism: Exposing Climate Change” between May 2020 and April 2021.

The project aimed to identify the challenges of progressive climate change through the development and strengthening of independent media in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. One of the main aims of the project was to show how the global problem of climate change manifests itself at the local level – without stopping at national borders. Enjoy browsing this website!
